Hello Mani,
I discovered your lovely design on CSS Zen Garden and was thrilled to see this step-by-step walkthrough of how you completed the process. I really enjoy hearing what other designers do and the thought process behind the decisions that are made.

Your approach to the design is beautiful and your approach to the article is light-hearted and fun. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work with us and for the time put into organizing this inspiring article!

Mani,

Holy cow. I've been looking for the "perfect" web site for our personal/family site for... Gosh, for forever. And I think I just found it. And I don't suppose the template is available for sale, is it... In any case, very, very nice job. Absolutely beautiful.

This has been both enlightening and very fun and easy to read. You are very talented as I'm sure you already know and as a student you have completely inspired me. It'd be great if there were more designers like you out there. Really down to earth!

Thank you

<strong>Thanks All for the many kind words!</strong>

<strong>Aneesah</strong>: You are quite welcome! And, to answer your question, I usually crank out the whole layout and then code it up. But I used to do it the other way - back and forth between Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Mainly this was because I didn't yet have the ability to translate all of my design choices into reality using web standards so often my coding abilities (or lack thereof) would inform my design choices.

Now that I actually know what I'm doing I don't have to worry about it so much - I know that I can figure out how to code whatever I design. =)

Hi! I came by from the Zen Garden and somehow ... you kinda sound like me. When you speak -- er, I mean, type. Of course I'm not any near as talented or skillful as you, cranking up a new layout for my site seems to be more of a burden right now, but anyway...

Just wanted to say thanks! For this article and the rest. I now have a nice new site to go through when I'm tired of erm, crocheting or organising my gallery. :)

My question is; when designing a layout like this, do you make the graphics (in this case, the header) and then start to piece together the coding, or do you like ... make a flat image of the whole layout in a graphics program, then start on the coding? I usually do the former, but I've heard of people doing the latter.

Thank you!
