I am Looking for a Protégé
Yep, you heard it … I’m in search of a protégé to bring into Deluxe Digital Media. I am basically looking for a mini-me … me a few years ago, if you will. (Narcissistic much?)
We at DDM are looking for someone to bring in initially on a freelance basis to work on some of our smaller projects, but if the fit is exceptional it would hopefully lead to a full-time job. You would be working directly with me and I would happily impart any and all of my knowledge on you and hopefully get some or yours back in return. You would also have the extreme pleasure of working with some of my colleagues here – who are brilliant, friendly, and fun.
Who you are
You are passionate about the web and about doing things right. You are or you aspire to be a web standards guru. You love to code but also enjoy having a hand in design, and you have some talent for it. You have submitted to the CSS Zen Garden or you really wish you had. You are creating a career for yourself, not just looking for a job. You are fun to work with. You love to learn and grow in your field and enjoy being challenged.
Required
- You must be local to the San Francisco area and willing to work onsite in Berkeley
- You possess at least strong intermediate skills with XHTML & CSS with a desire to become an expert (if not one already)
- You have an eye for design and some talent for it with a desire to expand that talent
- You are proficient in Dreamweaver and Photoshop
In My Dreams (but not necessary)
- You have strong javascript skills and can help us with scripting tasks
- You can create and/or manipulate vector images in Illustrator
- You have experience with Flash
Ultimately
We are looking for someone who could become part of our team – someone who is driven and would contribute talent, ideas, enthusiasm, and knowledge. This is an incredible place to work. Last week I actually woke up one morning, realized it was Monday, and felt stoked because I got to go back to the office.
If Interested
Please send me an email letting me know why you think you and I would be a good fit for working together. In that email please include a link to your online portfolio. If you don’t have an online portfolio then include a list of 3—5 sites you have worked on and what your role in them was.
Please also let me know what you charge hourly and what your salary requirements would be for a full-time position. Be honest about this. We are not looking to hire the cheapest person. We care about the right fit and we believe in fair compensation.
Thank you and I look forward to scrutinizing your skill set … errr, I mean, getting to know you!

Awww, too bad I don’t live in the SF area. Sounds like this would be such a great experience!

Hey, I saw your ad on Craigslist and wrote you an email. I’m 22 and I just moved to the Bay area, and coincidentally, I’m looking for a mentor! I have a lot of experience programming and writing XHTML strict/CSS sites, but I’d really like to learn more about design and art.
Also, I’m hoping that somebody who knows the area and the business can help me get started here around SF, because I don’t really know anyone here yet!
Thanks! :)

Wow… I wish this wasn’t in San Francisco… I’m crazy about web design and I loved learning the W3C XTHML 1.0 and CSS Strict standards… I’m glad you aspire to the same!
Web and graphical design are so much fun, lol! I spend about 3/4 of my day learning and perfecting my skills just for that fact.
Well, I wish the best to you in your search.
God Bless,
