Introducing Creative Flux
You may recall my post of a couple months ago – Office Space, a New-School Web-Programming Geek, and a Business Name – in which I spoke of a new business partner and a new business venture. You may be wondering whatever came of that? Well, the business partner is still with me, and the business venture is still in the works … it’s just changed scope a bit (as ventures tend to do). It’s gotten more exciting!
So What’s Happening Now?
As many new opportunities do, it started with some dissapointment. That gorgeous space we were drooling over at The Strawberry Creek Design Center got leased out from under us. Yeah, it was really dissapointing. But following that dissapointment were some very tasty new developments. We are talking with a really fantastic small company about a strategic alliance. We are working on a website to unveil it all. We are now looking to find and share a space with the fantastic folks from this company, plus a few other talented freelancers. Ideally, we hope to create a sort of web development utopia where creative energy is shared, ideas and talents are exchanged, and an in-house network of programmers, designers, editors, illustrators, and visionaries is created. Wow! (Well … a girl can dream, right?)
We don’t have a space yet (we still kinda have our hearts set on Strawberry Creek), we haven’t found all the players yet, we haven’t ironed out all the details of how this new exciting partnership will actually work … but there’s a lot of energy and momentum flowing towards these goals. My partner and I are attending The Future of Web Apps summit next month and we thought it would be a great opportunity to network and perhaps find some of folks who would be a good fit for the group we’re trying to put together.
Marketing The Concept
In an effort to market this idea we thought it would be awesome to have some business cards made up that we could pass out which would reflect our hopes in some way. Then, of course, a website explaining things would be cool too. But, we needed a name to function under. If all goes well and we get a space at Strawberry Creek we would need to establish a co-op that all the members could join so that we could share the lease and insurance and all that Jazz. What did we decide to call that co-op? You guessed, it: Creative Flux.
Creative because, well … duh. Flux, because that’s what everything is in for us right now. Flux: noun: a state of uncertainty about what should be done (usually following some important event) preceding the establishment of a new direction of action; or verb: move or progress freely as if in a stream; mix together different elements. I love the name and it immediately inspired me to design!
The logo I came up with for the business cards really kicks ass (in my humble opinion … I know, it’s horrible to say so about my own work but I can’t help it … I love it!) and made me want to make a website using it right away! I haven’t gotten too far … everything is still latin text and there are no actual pages and it’s just a picture sitting on my server but I couldn’t wait for all that to come together before sharing the design with you guys. I’ve actually done a few designs lately that I’ve wanted to share, but I can’t because the sites aren’t launched yet. This is my site, so I can show whoever I want. ;o)
Check it out in it’s rough form and let me know what you think:

i do like the logo. i like the texture and contrast and the lovely extension on the “t”!
i really like the colors of the website too and again the texture. lol…the only thing that trips me up is the strawberry (althought it’s strawberry creek) because i’m working on a sorority website and one of their symbols is a strawberry. :-D

At first glance, I thought the name read “Creative Hux”. You must have been thinking of me! ;-)
Good luck with your venture.

Beautiful! Please do keep us posted on how Creative Flux comes along. I’m in a similar situation right now as well, so hearing about someone else’s business endeavors is very comforting.

I’m horribly jealous as ever. You’ve done a fantastic job and I can’t see anything possibly standing in your way.
Good luck all the same, of course!

Gorgeous. I love it. I can TOTALLY see this in the CSS showcase sites … be sure to enter it when you are done!
I love the colors … I love the subtle sense of light … the fonts … the textures. Excellent job!
