Slashdot Redesign
Slashdot has been accepting submissions for a redesign contest and yesterday I submitted my design.
The winner will receive a new laptop of their choice valued up to $4500. Man, I want that laptop! I don’t have a lot of hope of winning however, since, according to yesterday’s post the judge has all but selected a winner already. I was hoping to ride in at the 11th hour and blow him away, but all I received in the way of confirmation was, “Thanks for the entry.”
This is not necessarily how I would redesign Slashdot if I could do whatever I wanted, but I paid attention to what it seemed the judge was after and did my best to create a design I thought could win. I made very minimal changes to the existing html markup and quite clearly commented what was changed when changes were made. I made minimal use of graphics, and attempted to keep a visual continuity with the current design, while giving it a fresh look. Both the html and css validate, I believe it is cross-browser and cross-platform compatible, and there is a completely separate style sheet for IE ‘hacks’ (which are minimal).
Wish me luck, and please feel free to tell me what you think of my efforts.
Thanks!!

Wow - this is an awesome entry! I like it WAY better than the three that he says are his favorite.
If he has any taste, then you are a shoe-in for sure!
Good luck, Mani … we’re rooting for you! =)

Wow - I like this SO much better than the other three sites on his last post…and I’m not just saying that because I’m your friend! I think your navigation scheme on the lefthand side is awesome - nice work!! Here’s to winning in the 11th hour! :D

Have they chosen a design yet?

Oh man. I just saw the winning design. Yours is infitely better.
Oh well. I didn’t expect them to go with anything great. Look at the site they have lived happily with for six years. One of the ugliest around.
Oh well … thanks for trying!

Yeah, that winning design is very blah. You should sue. I don’t know any high priced lawyers, but I do know one regular-priced one whom you could overpay.
